Shepparton Swans' Josh Rachele (pictured) and Mooroopna's Nathan Basile will play for School Sport Victoria at the Australian Football Championships.

Footballers and umpires from the region will represent Victoria at national carnivals later this year.

Josh Rachele and Nathan Basile will play for School Sport Victoria at the School Sport Australia 15 years and under Australian Football Championships.

The tournament will be held in Adelaide this season, with the best young talent set to be on show from July 21-28.

Basile, who plies his trade at Mooroopna, and Rachele, who when he gets time among his plethora of sporting ventures suits up for the Shepparton Swans, could see even more familiar faces at the championships.

Seymour’s Lachlan Wright and Broadford’s James Meek will hold whistles at the event after being selected to represent the Team Vic Umpires.

The officials, who attend Seymour College and Assumption College respectively, will hold sway over a number of matches in South Australia, but will also back up for the SSA 12 years and under Australian Football Championships in Canberra from August 11-18.

Only eight umpires were selected for the 15 years and under event, meaning the pair will get plenty of chances to be in the thick of the action.

Basile and Rachele will train heavily with the squad during the next couple of months, looking to put their best foot forward in order to continue to impress coaches and selectors.

The Notre Dame College students are two of only a handful of regional talents to make the cut for the squad.
