Goulburn Valley League’s 17-and-under side is dominated by Shepparton United and Echuca players.
The two sides squared off in last year’s GVL grand final with the Demons taking the chocolates after the two teams headed the competition.
Shepparton United coach Di Hanslow is in charge of the team that will face Ovens and Murray, with Rochester’s Rachel Whipp her assistant.
Hanslow said the Murray Bombers and Demons stars had only continued to grow since last year.
‘‘The majority of those girls are now playing in senior teams across A-grade at both clubs, so then obviously it’s going to be difficult for there not to be a good number from both of those clubs,’’ Hanslow said.
‘‘I’ll be wanting girls to show maturity after some having played it last year and with a lot more senior netball under their belt.
‘‘Throughout the trials the girls were very aggressive when it comes to defence which is fantastic and often at the end of the day the best defensive team takes the victory.
‘‘There’s a lot of talent amongst the group, but it’s just getting the combinations that do link together.’’
Rochester’s Tess Teggelove and Shepparton’s Andriana Oliver are the two players that complete the list and Hanslow said they would fit in well tomorrow.
‘‘Andriana is one of the players that was in it last year and Tess is going to be a nice player in the future,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s so much flexibility through the group and it’s about getting that flexibility right.
‘‘The other new player to the team is (Echuca’s) Meg Eishold and she wasn’t in the group last year and she’s a dynamic, aggressive little player.’’
Last year the GVL secured a stunning 17-and-under victory against Ovens and Murray at Wodonga, taking the game by a goal in overtime after a mammoth comeback.
But Hanslow is hoping tomorrow’s game will not require a similar sort of fightback.
‘‘We want to get a much stronger start than we got last year, I kept running through combinations (at Thursday’s training) to find a starting seven,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve got a lot of flexibility and strength through the group, so it’s about finding which is going to be the best starting seven.’’
