James Boyer was phenomenal for the Murray Bushrangers in their impressive win against Northern Knights.
The Congupna talent has put together some solid games in the TAC Cup this year, but his efforts on Saturday were the best he has produced yet.
Lining up as part of a classy back six, Boyer could not be beaten along the half-back line.
Often removing the ball from the danger zone with a clearing kick, Boyer played a major part in the 13.16 (94) to 8.11 (59) win.
Boyer has been in fine form all year whether at club or Bushrangers level, important in The Road’s senior win against Shepparton East two weeks ago.
At Preston City Oval, Boyer was well supporter by Shepparton United’s Jye Chalcraft who was hard at the ball and gathered contested possessions as did Yarrawonga’s Ely Smith.
While the Bushrangers have not always dealt with conditions well in the past, on Saturday Leon Higgins’ troops were up to the challenge.
Sent to kick against the wind after losing the toss, Murray stayed even with the Knights in the first term before making its mark in the second.
The Bushies kept their opposition to one goal while kicking four themselves to begin a charge that would be continued in the third term.
With a six-goal lead at the final change, the Bushrangers never looked like succumbing with Shepparton United’s Zane Barzen scoring two goals as Chalcraft, Laitham Vandermeer (Mooroopna) and Patrick Warner (Benalla) all scored one.
●Murray Bushrangers’ youth girls side has ended its season with three wins and a draw to show from its nine matches.
The Bushies also met the Northern Knights and like their male counterparts were tasked with the challenge of kicking against the wind in the first term.
But in this case the Bushies were unable to halt the Knights as they surged to an unassailable lead after kicking 4.6 to the Bushies no score in the first term.
At RAMS Arena in Craigieburn, Mooroopna’s Tamara Smith ended her season on a high by chasing down her opponents and always putting in maximum effort.
The Cats will enjoy a boost to their Shepparton District Junior Football League side when Smith returns, along with teammates Bec Webster and Millie Brown who were also fantastic at the weekend.
