Goulburn Valley Suns are among 32 teams left in the Victorian section of the FFA Cup after their 6-1 defeat of Northern Falcons on Saturday.

The path to FFA Cup glory has become much clearer for Goulburn Valley Suns after a strong draw for their fifth-round tie.

State League One side Eltham Redbacks await the Suns and will be travelling to Shepparton’s Theatre of Dreams for the fixture.

With 32 teams left in the Victorian section of the competition, the Suns are now three wins away from the national stage, with four teams from the state to make it.

But the Redbacks have shown they’re not afraid of winning away from home though in their cup run to date.

They needed extra time to beat FC Clifton Hill 4-3 away in the third round, before a strong showing against fellow State League One side Malvern City, winning 3-1.

The Suns comfortably got their cup run started on Saturday night, seeing off State League Four Northern Falcons 6-1, while resting a number of key players.

In a gripping weekend of FFA Cup action, top-tier National Premier League Victoria sides South Melbourne and Melbourne Knights were knocked out.

Among the teams still remaining in the competition are Bentleigh Greens, Avondale, Green Gully and FC Bulleen, with Suns’ most local rival Murray United also still alive.

Manningham United Blues, the team that knocked Tatura out of the tournament, also won through to the fifth round.

Round five ties will be held on April 11 and 18.
