There’s no putting the brakes on free-wheeling Parkers

There are no arguments about how dominant Shepparton Park is in midweek competition.

The Parkers have won the first flight title four years in a row, most recently snaring the flag against Shepparton Golf to be crowned this summer’s premiers.

But the tight-knit group has proved it is not just the best in Goulburn Valley Bowls Division

Now Shepparton Park is the most successful of nearby leagues, taking out the Central Goulburn Murray Midweek Pennant Championship yesterday.

With no need to travel, the Parkers enjoyed staying on their home greens, taking a clean sweep of their matches to finish top of the table.

The local side opened up its account with a strong win against Murray Bowls Division premier Cobram, as Shepparton Park showed it meant business.

A 23-shot victory had the side in a commanding position although Central Bowls Division team Kilmore provided a sizeable test.

The Parkers claimed two rink victories in the impressive 10-shot win, offsetting a minor two-shot defeat in their only losing rink.

Kilmore also overcame Cobram by 14 shots, but Shepparton Park’s clean record had it safely over the line.

The Parkers will now look to represent the region with distinction when they head to Moama to contest the highly regarded State Championship.

Marika Armstrong, Di Hands and Bev Cahill starred for their side this season, leading their rinks spectacularly and they will look to again play their best bowls at the titles.

The GVBD is also looking forward to its challenge day against Ovens and Murray, held at Stanhope on Sunday, April 8.
