A large contingent of Shepparton athletes headed to Albert Park recently for the Little Athletics Victoria State Track and Field Championships.
Shepparton Little Athletics Centre had 23 competitors taking on the best young athletes in the state, with the group bringing home four medals.
Alice Ludlow stepped up into the under-10 level magnificently at her second championships.
In her debut last year, Ludlow snared a silver medal in the under-9 shot put with a distance of 6.93m.
The rising star matched her silver efforts this time around, but increased her distance to 8.79m — highlighting her massive improvement between seasons.
Ludlow also placed fifth in the discus event with a 24.48m throw.
Noah O’Brien-Hangan also secured himself a medal at the championships, taking bronze in the under-11 long jump.
After flying through the air for 4.59m to take third spot, O’Brien-Hangan also jumped 9.18m in the triple jump (finishing seventh) and ran a 29.99sec 200m race for 16th.
In his last season of Little Athletics, Antonio Vaitohi finished on yet another high, taking victory in the 100m and 200m under-15 races.
Vaitohi — who backed up his state championships with national glory only a week later — ran the 100m in a time of 11.23 and the 200m in 22.84 to blast past the rest of the field.
The local centre’s final day of competition was held at the weekend, with presentations for the season scheduled for this Saturday at KidsTown.
