Murray Football Netball League has re-signed its affiliation agreement with AFL Goulburn Murray to remain under the AFL Victoria banner.
Although discussions surrounding the agreement have been ongoing for some time, Murray’s executive signed the 12-month extension without any amendments.
The league has no intention to surrender its administrative rights to the regional administration centre next year though, and will continue to work with AFL GM to reach a solution during the coming year.
‘‘There has been plenty of goodwill between both parties,’’ Murray general manager Dale Norman said.
‘‘We’ve been discussing this affiliation agreement for quite some time now and we’ve signed it off without any amendments, but we have not given any commitment to join the RAC services for next year.
‘‘I would expect negotiations to open up quite early this year, (about) June or July where we may start discussing what the administration is going to look like for 2019.’’
Norman also highlighted that the executive’s aim to remain an independent organisation was a wish shared by Murray league clubs.
‘‘Of course we want to be affiliated with AFL Victoria, but our clubs’ preference, if I can speak on behalf of the clubs, is to stay independent of the RAC services,’’ he said.
‘‘We still intend to work with the RAC and with AFL Goulburn Murray, but we’d like to stay independent.
‘‘But in the end that’s going to be the board’s choice and then the clubs’ choice, and it’s up to AFL Goulburn Murray to get out now and sell their services to the clubs.’’
Murray put pen to paper last week, with the neighbouring Picola District Football Netball League set to announce a decision on its own affiliation by tonight.
