In yet another Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association thriller, Stanhope took home the GM2C crown on Saturday by four games.
Stanhope and Mooroopna Cats had been quite difficult to separate all year; the last time they met they tied overall on games won, with the 6-5 sets edge booking Stanhope’s progression to the decider.
And the grand final was another example of how even the teams were, with only one set between the line-ups.
The singles was split with Jorge Maxwell and Craig Billing winning for Stanhope and Sophie Smith and Tayla Marshall coming through for the Cats.
Maxwell, named best-on-court, put the team on his back by winning doubles matches with Corey Browne and Petra Donaldson 8-5 and 8-2, respectively, to help build what would prove to be a match-winning lead.
But the Cats had their own heroes, with Jack Nicholson continuing to fight with two doubles wins of his own.
Ultimately it came down to Stanhope pinching that extra set, a premiership flag coming with it.
Stanhope’s Petra Donaldson was named the division’s female MVP, with Kyabram’s Nathan Angelino the male winner.
