The final pieces of the State Champions Week puzzle have come together for the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division.
Shepparton Golf’s David Daws and East Shepparton’s Josie Michielin joined an already strong contingent of GV bowlers with tickets to Bendigo for the April 17 to 23 tournament.
Michielin had a strong day on paper at Shepparton Park in the Central Goulburn Murray Bowls Region finals, but felt her actual performance had room for improvement.
‘‘I felt like I was hot and cold,’’ she said.
‘‘My main aim was to just get on the scoreboard to start with and then I just played my game.’’
After winning her first match of the morning 25-15, Michielin stormed through the Champion of Champions singles final 25-10 to book her spot at State Champions Week for the first time after stumbling at the corresponding hurdle two years ago.
‘‘It’s an unknown journey for me, I haven’t been down there before,’’ she said.
‘‘I’ll just take each game as it comes and keep trying my best.’’
Michielin’s East Shepparton teammates provided her with plenty of support on Sunday as well, giving her the confidence needed to battle the conditions.
‘‘We played on the grass and it ran okay,’’ she said.
‘‘The wind made it really tricky, but I had a really good support group from my club there.’’
Daws continued his great singles form for the season, remaining undefeated in this state event campaign.
The Golf skipper won 25-16 in his semi-final before claiming the regional title with a 25-12 triumph over Central Bowls Division’s Luke Spargo.
Daws also won his club singles this season, and will look to continue his form through the upcoming GVBD finals series.
Other GVBD representatives — Rushworth’s Jean Sprague and Hill Top’s Justin Spedding — fell at the semi-final stage on Sunday.
Sprague went down 13-25 to eventual winner Kerry Baldacchino (Murray Bowls Division) and Spedding suffered a tight 24-25 loss to Max Hammond (CBD).
Daws and Michielin will join four other teams at the Bendigo event after GVBD claimed six of 11 regional titles during the past three weeks.
