The host outfit claimed a remarkable 59 medals from just 44 competitors at McEwen Reserve, with 21 gold medals awarded to Shepparton members.

The 13 individual gold medallists have directly qualified for the upcoming (March 10-11) state titles, but with fields filled through next-fastest times and longest distances the local centre will certainly produce more qualifiers in the coming weeks.

More than 300 athletes from the across the region competed at the weekend, with the refurbished athletics facility showcased to hundreds more parents, officials and spectators.

News photographer Julie Mercer was on hand to capture all of the action.
