Mansfield’s Bonnie Toogood has lived up to her name, announced as one of AFLW’s rising star nominations for this week.

Toogood has been a talent to watch on the Western Bulldogs’ list, elevated from a rookie to making an impact in her first match.

On Sunday, Toogood’s silky skills were what drew attention, with her 10 disposals coming at 83 per cent efficiency against Brisbane.

Toogood was a nomination alongside teammate Libby Birch, who is another netball convert.

Having been a solid contributor to Mansfield’s A-grade line-up last year, Toogood returned to football for just three months before being selected by the Bulldogs.

An opportunity to make her way into the senior team came via Bulldogs teammates put on the injury list, and it was a chance Toogood has made the most of. The star goal attack said the tough nine-point win against the Lions was a showing of the determination of the side as it looks to carry that momentum for the rest of the season.

Toogood said she had been enjoying the ability to use her instincts in a way netball did not allow.

‘‘As a netballer I was a GA, so I’ve always known how to use my body and protect space,’’ Toogood told foxsports.com.au.

‘‘But my netball coach said to me, ‘You always played netball like a footballer’.

‘‘The ability to tackle, bump and go at the footy 110 per cent knowing I don’t have to stop really quickly has been working in my favour.

‘‘It has been really exciting to give it a go and be fearless with it.’’

Toogood and Birch will next meet an Adelaide line-up without Angela Foley.

The Shepparton defender put in an early guilty plea to accept a one-match penalty for kneeing Melbourne star Daisy Pearce in last week’s match.
