Murray Valley Cricket Association’s squad for its Melbourne Country Week campaign has a number of similarities to its recent successful tilt at the equivalent Bendigo crown.
After claiming division one glory at Bendigo Country Week last month, Murray players will turn their attention to taking on the Provincial division of the metro competition.
Eight players from the Bendigo grand final win against Goulburn Murray Cricket have been included in the 13-man squad tasked with tackling the highest level of the MCW, which begins on Monday.
Murray begins its tournament with a clash against Bairnsdale before taking on Ballarat and Geelong on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
The association won its way back to the Provincial grade with a division two final victory against Ferntree Gully last season, bouncing back from demotion after the 2016 edition.
Murray will be looking to consolidate its return to the Provincial grade on the back of strong performances from the likes of Ash Quinn, Luke Carter, Jordan Cleeland, Liam Evans and Kane Goldsworthy, who were all part of last year’s victory.
Cricket Shepparton (division two) and Goulburn Murray (division three) will start their tournaments against teams from Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association.
Murray Valley’s Melbourne Country Week squad: Mitch Cleeland, Jordan Cleeland, Brayden Carey (Waaia), Kane Goldsworthy (Cobram-Yarroweyah United), Riley Gow (Barooga), Adam Decicco (Cobram), Ash Quinn, Luke Carter, Liam Evans (Nathalia), Jonty Tubb, Zeniffe Fowler (Deniliquin), Luke Barnard, Tom Rutter (Katamatite).
