Echuca’s junior footballers will play in Shepparton this season to ready themselves for future senior opponents in the Goulburn Valley League.
The Murray Bombers’ under-14 side has made the move to the Shepparton District Junior Football League from the Goulburn Campaspe Junior Football League.
The aim is to have the young Murray Bombers play on grounds and against players they are likely to face as they graduate through the ranks.
It is part of an administrative overhaul Echuca has done ahead of this season.
Part of that overhaul was a shift in leagues for the under-14s.
New junior club president Shannon Cronin also headlines a seven-person executive, replacing last year’s 10-member board.
‘‘The under-16s will make the move next year,’’ Cronin said.
‘‘The under-10 and under-12 Echuca sides will continue playing their matches in the Goulburn Campaspe JFL, as fun should be the priority for those sides.
‘‘Those teams will stay as they are so they can prioritise their enjoyment and development.
‘‘Last year we had 240 kids playing (for the club), and we’re really keen to see that continue in 2018.’’
That number has more than doubled since this time in 2014 when the number of youngsters playing was 112.
