In the day and age of short form sport dominating our screens, it is time for netballers of the area to strut their stuff.
In a first for the region, the Shepparton Netball Association is hosting its inaugural Fast5 Netball Competition next month.
SNA administrator John Hoornweg encouraged netballers to take part in the fun event.
‘‘It’s a new competition, and we would love to see 15 to 20 teams enter,’’ Hoornweg said.
The Fast5 format has just five players on the court at one time, six-minute quarters and rolling substitutions.
The assocation has recently floated the idea of a tournament showcasing the game’s shortened form.
The association boasts the court space at Brauman St to host large amounts of teams.
The tournament will run Monday nights from February 5 to 19, as a way of improving pre-season fitness for teams that will take part in the winter season.
The competition has a range of divisions, with 17-and-under, 19-and-under, open womens and mixed teams welcome to take part.
Greater Shepparton City Council is hosting a free exhibition of Fast5 netball tonight at the Shepparton Sports Stadium.
Starting at 6.30pm, the program will run for about two hours and is free to take part.
Prospective players are invited to attend an information evening on Monday to ask any questions about the SNA tournament.
The meeting will start at 6pm at the SNA’s clubrooms at the Brauman St courts.
