East Shepparton bowler Wilma Linehan always enjoys the social aspect of bowls, irrespective of whether her side wins or loses.

On an average Tuesday afternoon, you will find Wilma Linehan trying to draw shot for East Shepparton Bowls Club.

Although her division four team remains winless this season, Linehan never struggles to find motivation for a contest due to the club’s fantastic social environment.

‘‘It’s just fun and games, the people you meet are just terrific,’’ she said.

Convinced by her sister to come and try her hand at lawn bowls, Linehan has not looked back, with the devoted player into her fourth year of competition with East Shepparton.

With family scattered across the country, Linehan finds it difficult to convince her grandchildren to play a friendly game, despite the sport’s growing interest from the younger generation.

Clubs in Shepparton and Mooroopna boast an impressive lawn bowls pedigree, with six clubs in the area competing in the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division.

As for convincing News readers on giving lawn bowls a go with a club, Wilma says ‘‘Why not?’’
