It has happened again.
For the second straight year three grand finals in the Goulburn Murray region will be played on the same weekend.
The Kyabram District and Murray leagues will have their showpiece days on September 22 next year, with the Goulburn Valley League to go ahead with its decider on September 23.
All leagues confirmed their grand final dates with The News yesterday.
The KDFNL locked in its timeslot at its annual meeting on Wednesday night, while the GVL yesterday released its complete fixture for next season.
MFL general manager Dale Norman said the league was yet to confirm its entire fixture, but the decider would go ahead on September 22.
A decision on a venue will not be made until next year.
This year the Murray league grand final was played at Rumbalara’s Mercury Drive for the first time, going head-to-head with the Kyabram District decider at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve about 8km away.
The weather caused havoc on that day, with heat and wind a major factor, and crowds were noticeably down at both grand finals.
The GVL grand final between Kyabram and Shepparton was played the next day at Deakin Reserve.
After playing on the traditional date on the Sunday after the AFL grand final for decades, the GVL moved its decider forward a week last year and is sticking with the new timeslot.
The move initially came about after the AFL threw a curveball ahead of last year’s fixture and decided to have its grand final in October, instead of the traditional last Saturday in September.
