A huge contingent of Shepparton Little Athletics Centre members headed to Bendigo last weekend for the Northern Country Region Relay Championships.

The results the centre produced were outstanding, with 18 of the 27 individual teams finishing the day with medals.

Seven gold medals were brought home by the local athletes, while six silvers and five bronzes were also awarded.

One of the more impressive performances went to the under-15 mixed 4x100m relay team of Antonio Vaitohi, Jayden Hollands, Gretel Holmes and Holly Kirby.

The quartet stormed ahead of the competition in their event, falling just one second short of a Victorian record on their way to collecting gold.

Every team that came first in their event has automatically received an invite to the Little Athletics Victoria State Championships, which will be on December 16 at Albert Park in Melbourne — while other athletes could still sneak through as final fields are yet to be announced.
