Rain washes almost all scheduled games down the drain

Karramomus' Lisa Reid is joined by her teammates and opposition under shelter as rain pelts down on Saturday.

Rain almost completely wiped out the whole round of Shepparton District Tennis Association action at the weekend.

Only three games across all three sections were finished, with all of pennant being called off.

Lemnos recorded a comprehensive 16-game win against Shepparton North in A1/A2 action on Friday night.

Peter Jeffery, Scott McHugh and Will Kop led the way for Lemnos, not dropping a set in their men’s doubles and mixed doubles rubbers.

Paula Montgomery, Kath Davies and Brooke McLeod were on song for North.

St Andrew’s were able to get enough play in to defeat Murchison 4-31 to 2-22 in a shortened match.

Undera White and Bunbartha fought out a thriller in A3, with the former being declared the winner after banking one more set.

The teams were locked at 43 games apiece, but Bunbartha had the edge in the mixed doubles as Paul Harlow, Bob Steen, Di Montgomery and Lea Florence led the charge.

While there might not have been much action on Saturday, the SDTA will heat up on Thursday night with the association championships to take place.

The men’s and women’s singles crowns will be up for grabs, along with the veterans’ mixed doubles.

Action will start at McEwen Reserve from 6.30pm.
