Benalla Lawn Tennis Club’s 92nd annual tournament is gearing up for a big Melbourne Cup weekend of play.
Club president Peter Jewell said the tournament would cater for all ages and abilities.
He said the club’s 24 grass courts were in great condition and competitors would be assured of at least two sets with the popular round-robin format of the tournament
Players will be able to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles during the three days of competition.
Tomorrow will see singles action with the men’s and ladies’ open, A, B and C-grades for adults and boys and girls under-15, 13 and 11.
On Sunday, doubles players will be catered for with A, B and C-grade men’s and ladies’ doubles, as well as boys’ and girls’ under-15, 13 and 11 doubles.
On Sunday evening, the ever-popular trivia night will again be held with lots of laughs and great prizes promised.
The final day of the tournament will be on Melbourne Cup day with mixed doubles in A, B, C and D grades for juniors and beginners.
Players will also have the opportunity to win tickets to next year’s Australian Tennis Open at Melbourne Park, as well as watch the race that stops the nation on a big screen.
