Shepparton United has lost one of its top players.
Former Goulburn Valley interleague utility Daniel Bowles is off to Wodonga Raiders next season after being announced by the Ovens and Murray club yesterday.
Bowles played 31 games for the Demons after heading to Deakin Reserve ahead of the 2016 season from Murray Football League club Congupna.
He is heading to the Raiders because of his close friendship with former United star Brodie Filo, who played there this year.
Raiders coach Daryn Creswell told the Border Mail he was excited to get Bowles across after watching him closely in the past few seasons.
‘‘He’s about six foot two and he’s got some real X-factor about him,’’ Cresswell said.
‘‘I rate him right up there with Brodie Filo as a player and I rate Filo as the best player in the comp.
‘‘He’s going to give us a lot of drive, he’s a left-footer and a penetrating kick that plays off half-back, wing, half-forward or through the middle.’’
The Demons went through a year of rebuilding under coach Peter Sheehan, blooding plenty of talented young players and finished 10th on the ladder with four wins this season.
