Limited preparation saw the Shepparton Lady Gators struggle against Wodonga Lady Wolves on Saturday night.

It was a mixed start to the Country Basketball League for Shepparton Lady Gators.

Chris Judd’s team went down to a powerful Wodonga Lady Wolves on Saturday night at Shepparton Sports Stadium.

The Gators were underdone on preparation, only having five training sessions before round one to get ready.

Wodonga was the more settled team, as it won by 27 points in a commanding display after half-time.

There were only two points in it halfway through the second quarter, but the visitors put the foot down after that.

A positive for Shepparton is having so many players to draw on, with 12 players featuring against the Wolves.

No-one scored double figure points, but there were a lot of contributors with eight players getting their name on the scoresheet.

Captain Rhianna Barton top-scored with seven, while Marni Sharp and Naomi Amos had decent outings.

The Gators responded in style on Sunday, defeating Echuca by five points in what was a tense and tight encounter.

The Lady Pirates got out to a seven-point lead early in the first term, but the teams could barely be split from there.

Barton was the star, sinking a game-high 18 points in a dominant display.

There were solid contributions from Amos (eight points) and Lauren Murray (six).

Shepparton will play again on October 28 when it hosts Wallan at Shepparton Sports Stadium.
