Shepparton Gators could not have made a more convincing start to the Country Basketball League season.
Josh Waight’s side demolished Wodonga Wolves and Echuca Pirates in their weekend double-header.
The Gators kicked off on Saturday night at Shepparton Sports Stadium by hosting Wodonga. The Wolves stuck around with Shepparton in the first half, with the Gators taking a 12-point lead into the major change.
But Shepparton put its foot down after half-time to take home a resounding 39-point victory.
The CBL season gives teams a chance to develop players in the aim of featuring in the Big V competition.
Eleven players got a run against the Wolves, with 10 scoring at least one point.
Josh Lebatlus continued on from his promising season in the Big V with a game-high 17 points, including three treys, in an encouraging display.
Centre Nick Dodd was up and about with 15 points, while Sam Beks threw down the same figure.
Dylan Wayman had 10 points, while Liam Dodd and Gabe Evans figured prominently.
On Sunday, Wayman carried on from where he left the previous day, shooting 21 points as the Gators defeated the Pirates in Echuca by 22 points.
After a defensive scrap in the first half, the Gators pulled away in the third quarter after leading by eight points at the main break.
Wayman was a key figure in the victory against his former side, while Evans had a game to remember with 20 points.
Liam Dodd again put in a promising performance, as did Ben Malatzky in his first game of the season.
The Gators will be back in action on October 28 when they host Wallan.
