Shepparton United’s attacking midfielder Ermal Marku has been crowned the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League men’s division one Player of the Year.
Held on Friday night in Bendigo, Marku claimed the award after a sublime season for United in which he scored 15 goals in 22 games.
The Albanian flourished in the newly merged BASL competition, with his playing coach Roven Shaholli labelling him a genuine match-winner.
‘‘He has been sensational this season, his work-rate, commitment and effort lifted a whole lot more compared to last season,’’ Shaholli said.
‘‘I’ve kept saying that he is the best player in the competition and I am happy to be proven right in the end.’’
Marku guided United to a fourth placed finish in the Championship, but a League Cup grand final berth was just out of reach as his side bowed out against Eaglehawk in the preliminary final.
Strathdale budding star Ellie Vlaeminck completed a clean sweep in the Women’s Championship winning all three awards on offer.
The 14-year-old was named the competition’s best player, top goal-scorer and also claimed the women’s Young Player of the Year award.
