Shepparton's Rayan Taya (centre) will represent the state at the Australian Deaf Games in January, is pictured with coach Kylie Beasley and teammate Ashleigh Kedge.

Claudia Plattfuss enjoyed taking to the netball court.

Lachlan Logan controls the ball during a clinic at Guthrie Street Primary School.

Rayan Taya will be looking forward to the new year after being selected for the Victorian team to take part in the women’s and mixed netball teams at the Australian Deaf Games.

The Shepparton High School Year 10 student will take part in the event held in Albury-Wodonga from January 20 to 27.

Taya will be one of the youngest competitors to contest the games and is one of five players to be included in both the mixed and women’s teams.

Tryouts for the side were held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre last month and this month.

At the 18th Australian Deaf Games, netball will be joined by a host of sports including athletics, beach volleyball, darts, swimming and futsal.

Taya and her teammate Ashleigh Kedge were on hand to help run a clinic at Gurthrie St Primary School, putting aspiring players through training drills.

Anyone wishing to help Taya with sponsorship can contact Deaf Netball Victoria president Robyn Beasley by emailing [email protected]
