Warwickshire like what it sees with Ryan Sidebottom.
After gaining his first contract with the English County Club last month, the Tallygaroopna-raised fast bowler has been rewarded with security for the 2018 season.
Sidebottom initially signed with the Bears until the end of the current season, but his outstanding performances have helped him become a crucial part of the team.
Warwickshire sport director Ashley Giles said it was an easy decision to bring Sidebottom back for another season.
‘‘Ryan has been an excellent addition to the squad and we’ve been pleased with his performances in the three championship games that he’s played to date, with his 13 wickets coming at an average of just 18.3,’’ Giles said.
‘‘He’s worked incredibly hard to reach the professional ranks at this stage of his career and we look forward to seeing him challenge for a place in other formats of the game next season.’’
Sidebottom had played just one first-class game, coming in 2013, before signing with Warwickshire.
His career record has been improved to an average of 23 with 14 wickets after he had match figures of 1-93 on debut for Victoria more than four years ago.
Warwickshire is locked in a battle with Essex at Birmingham, with the Bears bowled out for 201 on the opening day.
In reply, Essex made it to stumps at 0-69 with Sidebottom bowling five overs for 0-27.
