Ryan Sidebottom continues to take first-class wickets in England.
The Cricket Shepparton export could not will his Warwickshire Bears over the line in a crucial County Championship division one clash with Somerset though, with the side slumping to a 169-run defeat.
Sidebottom struggled to make inroads during Somerset’s first innings, taking 1-28 from six overs bowled.
After retaining not out status at the end of the Bears’ first dig, the former Karramomus paceman then went about his work in earnest in an attempt to drag his side back into the contest.
The local export snared two early wickets to give Warwickshire hope, but a stirring unbeaten century from former England captain Marcus Trescothic (119) put paid to its chances.
Sidebottom finished the innings with figures of 3-69 from 16 overs for match statistics of 4-97, as well as an unbeaten four with the bat in the final innings of the match.
It means that since his return to the first-class arena, Sidebottom has taken 13 wickets in three matches at a superior average of 18.31.
Warwickshire is now almost certain to be relegated from the country’s top-flight, and faces top-of-the-table Essex at Edgbaston beginning tonight Australian time.
English fast bowler Chris Woakes will be available for Bears selection, but Sidebottom should feel confident in his place in the squad.
