Great teams do not stay down for long.

Nagambie proved that on Saturday with a crushing 96-point victory against Merrigum.

The Lakers were left hurting after a surprise loss to Stanhope, but responded in perfect fashion back at Nagambie Recreation Reserve.

The travelling Bulldogs simply had no answers for Linc Sullivan’s side, with Nagambie restricting them to four behinds after quarter-time.

In that period, the Lakers piled on 12 goals to set up a percentage-boosting result.

The Lakers sit second on the ladder behind Violet Town, despite the demolition job.

Bo Harrison was at the top of his game for Nagambie, while Danny Haysom, Marty Shadbolt, Jarryd Shepherd, Ben Hutton and Daine Lowry were also prominent.

Pat Rattray booted four goals, while Mat Waterson slotted three goals in a commanding display.

Merrigum’s best were Jake Parkinson, Geoff Connally, Dave Matthews, Charlie Lowe and Zak Parkinson.

The Dogs slipped out of the top six, with arch rival Lancaster taking their spot.

Top spot is up for grabs when reigning premer Nagambie travels to Violet Town in a blockbuster on Saturday, while Merrigum hosts fifth-placed Avenel.
