Seymour star Jason Cole will miss the remainder of the Goulburn Valley League season with a hamstring tear.
The classy midfielder sustained the injury during the Lions' round five match against Shepparton United, but played on for the following two rounds.
This year's GVL interleague captain was absent from the team's line-up over the past two rounds and Seymour coach Brent Colbert said scans revealed he would play no further part in the Lions' year.
"We knew there was something but he just had to get an MRI just to get a bit of closure on it but I don't think anyone was expecting this," he said.
"It's pretty fresh, I spoke to him yesterday and he just got the results so he's pretty shocked."
The injury means Cole is also unable to represent Victoria Country for a second time this year, having been named in the extended squad earlier this month.
