One of the Goulburn Valley's finest AFL exports has had his name etched in football history forever.
Former North Melbourne champion Anthony Stevens was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame last night in a gala ceremony at the Adelaide Oval.
Stevens grew up at Waaia before playing for Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley League, including appearing in the Bears' 1988 grand final defeat to arch-rival Shepparton United.
The courageous midfielder went onto star in 292 games for the Kangaroos and was a key member of the club's 1996 and 1999 premiership wins.
Stevens captained North in 2002 and 2003, before retiring at the end of 2004.
After finishing up in the AFL, Stevens came back to the GVL and played with brothers Garry and Brendan at Benalla.
