Avenel has continued its charge back up the Kyabram District Football League ladder, crushing Rushworth by 104 points on Saturday.

The Tigers took it up to the Swans at Avenel early, but the home side ran away with it to boot 15 goals to five after quarter-time and win 25.16 (166) to 9.8 (62).

Avenel had 10 individual goal-kickers, with Andrew Green (six goals), Chris Burton (five) and Cael McCarthy (five) leading from the front.

Nick Goodwin, Don Stirling, Ben Quick and Scott Tyers had good days out for the Swans.

Rob Osborne booted six of the Tigers’ nine goals, while Jayden Smith, Billy Wall, Daniel Lambden and Jake Perry were outstanding.

It was a tough day for the Rushworth faithful, with the club’s reserves and under-18 teams forfeiting their games.

●The Nagambie juggernaut rolled on with an emphatic 78-point victory against Girgarre.

The Lakers dominated from the outset, slamming on six goals to none in the first quarter before cruising to a 17.16 (118) to 5.10 (40) result.

Nagambie was well served by Mick Roberts, Kyle Winter-Irving, Nathan Fothergill, Daniel Haysom (six goals), Anthony Haysom and Ben Hutton.

For Girgarre, Tom Walsh, Jayden Tucker, Jake Hyland, Brenton Bassett, Nick Mellington and Simon Tomasini led the way as the club’s finals chances took a major hit.

●Merrigum won its first game since April after defeating Longwood by 68 point on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were refreshed after not playing last week due to being pitted against Ardmona and cleared ahead of the Redlegs early to eventually prevail 19.17 (131) to 9.9 (63).

Merrigum had 11 goal-kickers, as Bryce Wellington (four goals) and Daniel Dryden (three) were outstanding.

Jake Ross, Rohan Hearn, Charlie Lowe, Mitch Younger, Dave Matthews and Bob Knowles were in top form.

Longwood battled hard, especially after quarter-time, and was able to win the final term.

Braydon Kearns, Anthony Tautala (four goals), Lucas Foenander, Jack Myers, Ricky Ahearn and Daniel Robinson performed well for the Redlegs.
