Nick Warnock had a field day at the Benalla Showgrounds on Saturday.
The big forward slotted 10 goals, seven of which came after half-time, as Benalla romped to an 116-point victory against a hapless Shepparton United outfit.
Not to be outdone, Jordan Wolff got in on the action with five majors of his own, while coach Luke Morgan (two goals) and James Martiniello ensured the delivery into the forward line was of the highest quality.
‘‘It was a good win, it was a bit scrappy in the first half and we adjusted a few things at half-time,’’ Morgan said.
‘‘I think our effort and teamwork is really clicking.
‘‘He (Warnock) was a focal point and it’s a pleasing aspect to have two of your forwards combine for 15 goals even without Jarrod Bannister down there.’’
The heavy defeat is another blow to the Demons, but there is plenty of light at the end of the tunnel.
Debutant Sam Buxton snagged two goals, while Jye Chalcraft, 15, was again in the best.
‘‘We had as much footy as them in the first half, but that last disposal by either hand or foot kept letting us down and they just opened us up on the rebound,’’ coach Peter Sheehan said.
‘‘It is a real learning curve as well for us, we’d probably be lucky to have many guys that have played 50 senior games.’’
United will try to bounce back against Echuca next week, but could have to do so without Shane Sali, who suffered a calf injury in the first term.
Meanwhile, Benalla faces the toughest task in Victorian country football against Kyabram.
The Bombers have the longest active winning streak in the state with 30 victories, but Morgan was bullish about his side’s chances of ending that run.
‘‘We still think we’ve got the ability to really throw it to Ky, and that’s what we’ll do,’’ he said.
