Cricket Shepparton export Ryan Sidebottom has left Australia to chance his arm at club cricket in England.
The former Northerners fast bowler jetted out on Tuesday to sign with Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League side Berkswell Cricket Club in central England and is also set to trial at a minimum of two first-class county cricket clubs.
It is understood that the Victorian Bushranger will trial with Lancashire and Warwickshire in England’s premier competition.
If successful, the ability to sign with a county club will be made a little easier with the Koplak ruling and Sidebottom’s mother being English.
The fast-bowler is currently in a rich vein of form after an impressive stint in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition.
Sidebottom, the elder brother of Collingwood footballer Steele, finished the 2016/17 season for Carlton Cricket Club with 45 wickets in just 16 games.
More impressively, he also managed three five-wicket hauls, with season best figures of 6-34 against Geelong in round 15.
With such figures Sidebottom finished the premier season with 21 votes in the Jack Ryder Medal, nine behind eventual winner Brandon Drew.
Meanwhile, former Katandra cricketer Daniel Satori was crowned club champion for Richmond, finishing on 17 votes
