Will Echuca Harness Racing Club’s $30000 Echuca Pacing Cup tomorrow night be a two-horse race?
On form former Tasmanian Four Ex Dan and Bendigo-trained Cardon Merger look the testing material, but both have awkward draws.
The Adam Kelly-trained Four Ex Dan has to overcome a second row draw from barrier eight, while Cardon Merger comes from outside the front row.
But with the race over the 2560m marathon distance, the pair should have the time to make their presence felt again.
Four Ex Dan has really hit his straps in recent runs and is shooting for a hat-trick of wins tomorrow night after coming off successive wins in the recent Wangaratta Pacing Cup and at Melton last Saturday night.
Cardon Merger has won the St Arnaud and Boort Cups at his past two starts and is racing in career-best form.
The interesting runner is the Amanda Turnbull-trained Parramatta, who is coming off a win in the Wattle Cup at Cootamundra at his last start two weeks ago.
He has not raced in Victoria before, but has won 10 of his 48 starts. He comes from inside the second row.
Top trainer David Aiken has two runners in the cup, Upanatom and Cold Major, both from second row draws. Cold Major comes into the race particularly well under the conditions.
So is the Dean Braun-trained Stormfortheboys, who has bright each-way claims along with his stablemate Beach Boy Adios.
The Vince Vallelonga-trained Egodan is also drawn to run a big race from barrier three and is racing in good form.
Consistent mare Shakahari has won seven of her 11 starts this season and from barrier one can give a lot of cheek for a long way.
She finished third, only seven metres from the winner Messini in race record-breaking time in the Ouyen Cup last Sunday.
●It’s a huge night at the Campaspe Raceway tomorrow night with the $25000 George Croxford Tribute and the $12000 JA Connelly Crystal Bucket for T5 or better class trotters other features on the marathon 10-race card, which starts at 6.28pm.
