Euroa has had a gift land right in its lap heading into the Goulburn Valley League season.
Northern Territory sensation Francis Kinthari will take flight with the Magpies in a major coup for the club.
Kinthari is set to line up for St Mary’s in Saturday night’s Northern Territory Football League grand final against Wanderers before heading south to begin life in Victoria.
The exciting forward was chased by North East Australian Football League club NT Thunder, but has chosen Euroa after striking up a friendship with Magpies big man Trent Storer, who has been playing for St Mary’s during the summer.
‘‘He’ll play a half-forward role for us and I think he’ll cause lots of problems for opposition teams,’’ Euroa playing coach JD Hayes said.
‘‘Francis will be living with Trent Storer in Melbourne when they finish up after the grand final.
‘‘Trent said before he went up that he’s going to be on the lookout for players and Francis has just popped up and it’s very exciting for us.’’
Kinthari, who has been coined the Wadeye Wizard, has slotted 46 goals in 14 games for St Mary’s this season.
Euroa has practice matches against Whittlesea and Bonbeach, with Kinthari and Storer expected to be available for the final match before the regular season against Diamond Creek.
Kinthari told The NT News he was eager to give it a crack in the GVL.
‘‘I’ll go back home after the season and spend time with family for three weeks, then go down,’’ Kinthari said.
‘‘Someone told me it’s a good league and it will be my first time playing, so I’ll see how I go down there.
‘‘I’m just enjoying my footy. When I walk in the ground (in Darwin), people try to be friends with me and call my name.
‘‘I’m on a different journey now and I’ve never been through this in my life.’’
