Shepparton professional golfer Jarrod Lyle will be the special guest at Echuca’s Sportstar of the Year awards night this month.
His achievement on the golfing green can only be rivalled by his incredible story outside of the sport, where he has battled through two stages of acute myeloid leukaemia.
Those attending the awards night on February 27 will hear from Lyle about his sporting journey from the US PGA Tour to Australia, where he will play out his career.
Although he was not able to take out his maiden PGA Tour of Australasia crown, his performance was a massive improvement from his previous effort.
Lyle, 35, was at 13th Beach Golf Links in Barwon Heads on Thursday for the Victorian Open.
He missed the cut in his previous Vic Open appearance in 2014, but this year made it through to the final round after a stellar first half to the tournament.
He began the third round tied for 16th at seven-under, six shots behind the halfway leader Jake McLeod, after an eagle and two birdies in the second round.
Lyle ended the tournament tied for 18th at nine-under part following an inconsistent round on the Sunday.
‘‘To be able to come home, stay at home and play locally is nice. It’s just a little bit more relaxing than normal,’’ Lyle said during the tournament.
