It seems there are only three certainties in life — death, taxes and a Swift gold medal.
Shepparton Swimming Club captain Brennan Swift continued his stellar season in the pool, snaring gold in the 19-and-over butterfly final at the Victorian Sprint Championships at the weekend.
Swift qualified fastest for the 50m final and did not disappoint, streeting the field by more than half a second in the decider.
He also made the freestyle final, finishing seventh.
Younger brother Carter came away from the state event with some silverware of his own, missing first place in the 17-18 freestyle final by less than two 10ths of a second.
It was not all smiles for the superstar though, with his backstroke wedge slipping out during his take-off in the final of the event as he finished ninth after qualifying in sixth.
Carter also came ninth in the breaststroke and fifth in the butterfly finals after a big weekend in the pool.
Darcie Guthrie (eighth in breaststroke), Hume Hurley (sixth in backstroke) and club co-captain Hayley Hogan (sixth in backstroke) also qualified for finals, with Shepparton making nine across the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre meet.
‘‘It was another really pleasing day for the club,’’ president Phil Guthrie said.
‘‘It’s good to continue getting such great results at these very competitive meets.’’
