Easter Thursday football is coming to Katandra.
The Picola District Football Netball League match between the Kats and Katamatite will be played as a twilight blockbuster on April 13 to open the Easter round.
The game was originally scheduled for the Saturday, but the new facilities at Katandra Recreation Reserve and an opening in that timeslot paved the way for the move.
‘‘I reckon it will be a super success and it will only further promote those clubs and the whole league,’’ league operations manager Shane Railton said.
Goulburn Valley and Murray league games have traditionally been played on Good Friday, but an Easter Thursday night game has rarely been attempted.
To accommodate the historic night match on a Thursday, length of quarters in the under-14, under-17 and reserves matches will be slightly reduced.
The senior game will start at 7.20pm, with an estimated finish time of 9.30pm.
Dookie will host Rennie and Shepparton East will play Tungamah in a blockbuster grand final rematch to finish off the second round of the league’s south-east division.
The season begins on April 1 with a standalone game between Waaia and Katunga.
The news comes on the back of the league securing a pioneering partnership with McPherson Media Group that will have the league’s two senior grand finals, as well as the vote counts, be live-streamed.
