Mooroopna has added to its midfield stocks with another Burnie Docker.
Clint Riley has joined the Cats from the Tasmanian State League, where he will reunite with former Dockers teammates Romain Grenville and Nick Mitchell.
Riley will also extend his relationship with Mooroopna coach Dale Osborne, after the midfielder played under Osborne at Smithton in the Northern Tasmania league.
Expectations are high for Riley, 28, as the left-footer joins Mooroopna off the back of a great past year.
He was named in the Tasmanian state representative team and selected in the league’s team of the year.
‘‘He is coming to the GVFL off some great form. I know what he can do and I hope that he can replicate that for us,’’ Osborne said.
‘‘He is an A-grade midfielder.’’
Lacking depth, Riley’s addition is expected to add some much needed experience to the Cats.
‘‘He has won two senior premierships with Clarence in the TSL, so he will come over with a winner’s mindset and experience that he can feed our younger guys with,’’ Osborne said.
‘‘He oozes leadership, he is a hard worker and has good skills.’’
Riley becomes the club’s third signing from Burnie and when asked whether the Cats would need a name change, Osborne laughed at the idea.
‘‘We could be called the Dockers,’’ he joked.
‘‘But in all seriousness, it is great having connections over in Tasmania, it widens our talent pool rather than having to compete with every other club for players across the state.’’
Osborne remained tight lipped about any more potential recruits, but was optimistic about the season ahead.
‘‘I’m really excited with where we are at, we are starting to build the right foundations for our club,’’ Osborne said.
The Cats have a big scope for improvement after last year’s winless wooden spoon season.
