Rumbalara has unveiled a new A-grade netball coach for this year.
Rebecca Dean, who steered the club’s B-grade side to a semi-final appearance last year, will replace former coach Jessie Barnes-Hill after the star’s move to Goulburn Valley Netball League club Shepparton United.
Dean was involved with A-grade heavily last season, coaching from the sidelines while Barnes-Hill dominated on the court.
Rumba suffered a heartbreaking loss in the grand final last year to Echuca United after dominating the regular season, including winning the first 14 games of the year.
The remarkable revival, after finishing eighth in 2015, was largely thanks to Barnes-Hill’s ability to recruit numerous star netballers.
They included Fitzroy Stars players Jessica Bamblett, Rikki Bamblett and Lisa Thorp, as well as Natarsha Bamblett’s return from the Shepparton Swans.
Fears that Barnes-Hill’s exit would result in a mass exodus from the club have been allayed, though, with other key players expected to remain at Rumbalara this year.
