Flames keen to prevent dousing

Bamawm-Lockington United hosts Kyabram Fire Brigade in this weekend’s Goulburn Murray Cricket game of the round.

The Flames have won six of their past seven games, despite losing last round, while United also heads in full of confidence despite sitting in sixth position.

With only two regular season rounds left and the top two virtually wrapped up, Fire Brigade will be hoping for a win this weekend to set up a thrilling final-round match against league leader and reigning premier Rochester United.

United will look to assert it dominance at the top against Echuca this round before meeting the Flames to end the regular season.

United’s last loss came against Cooma four rounds ago, but the league leaders will be looking to build from its slight mid-season form slump.

Third-placed Cooma travels to Tongala in what could be a potential banana peel for the former.

Tongala sits the bottom of the table, but has taken more wickets than three other clubs above it and has also conceded less runs than five other clubs.

Unfortunately for the Blues, their problem lies in the batting department, where they have lost 20 more wickets than anyone else this season.

It will be a battle of the border in Echuca as South host rivals Moama at home.

Moama sits in fourth, but with a glimmer of hope and the right results, it could jump up to second with a win against South, who has nothing to play for in eighth.

In the round’s final match, it will be fifth versus ninth with Rochester Tigers taking on Stanhope at Windridge Oval.

Stanhope could still finish with the wooden spoon and will have plenty of pride to play for.
