The journey begins.
Shepparton South and Tatura have realised their fate ahead of their Football Federation Australia Cup campaigns.
Last year’s Goulburn North East grand finalists South will host fellow regional club Wangaratta City, while Tatura will play old rivals Cobram Roar during the qualifying rounds.
Football Federation Victoria will have its first FFA Cup matches on Saturday, February 11, but fixture details will be finalised next week.
It is believed South’s match will take place on the following Sunday as a result of the Goulburn Valley Suns also playing at McEwen Reserve on the Saturday night.
South president Gino Cirillo was excited about competing in the FFA Cup again after his side’s fifth round elimination last year.
‘‘It is a great competition and it is something that the club definitely takes seriously,’’ Cirillo said.
‘‘We will field our best team with the aim to go as far as possible. We want to play the top sides.’’
Similar to Cirillo, Tatura president Mimmo Lia was also thrilled to be competing in the cup, but would have preferred different opposition.
Tatura will be familiar with its opponents, despite Roar leaving the defunct Goulburn North East competition to compete in Albury Wodonga Football Association at the end of 2015.
‘‘The boys are super excited to play in the cup for the first time, although it would have been better to play someone we did not know,’’ Lia said.
‘‘Nonetheless it is a brilliant opportunity to compete. We follow the cup once it goes on TV, so it would be phenomenal to see our club get that far.’’
