East Shepparton came excruciatingly close to upsetting Shepparton Golf in midweek bowls division one.
In a game that saw neither side able to take a truly decisive rink victory, the league’s bottom side came within four shots of defeating Golf.
East’s Marilyn Cox held on to a two-shot win against Golf’s Elaine Leahy as her teammate Pamela Hueston took an even narrower victory with just one shot the margin.
But while it was by no means a dominant victory, Golf’s Rita Ivak got past Josephine Michielin 25-18 to ensure her side held on to its first match this year.
There were no upsets as Euroa took the chocolates against Kyabram with Lorraine Walters’ whopping 22-shot defeat of Jill Barrett sending her side in the right direction.
Margaret Cox claimed a rink for Kyabram, but Euroa took the overall victory 14-78 to 2-58.
Tatura’s Freda Clement was impressive in her 35-23 win against Shepparton Park’s Leonie Freeman, but it was to be Tatura’s only rink win for the day.
Jenni Hill and Lorna Winter led their side impeccably as the Parkers took the match 14-82 to 2-62.
Mooroopna was a 15-shot victor against Hill Top, with a clean sweep of the rinks allowing the side to maintain its spot in the top four.
Seymour, Avenel, Shepparton Park and Mooroopna Golf took home wins in division two with Katandra West, Kyabram, Rushworth and Shepparton Park doing the same in division three.
Kyabram, Nagambie, Mooroopna and Seymour won in division four.
