The girls’ under-15 National Championships began yesterday in Canberra, with two Northern Rivers girls showcasing their talents.
Central Park-St Brendan’s gun Arnika McGregor and Jerilderie’s Mardie Hamilton are representing Vic Country in the tournament in the hopes of impressing national selectors.
Country started its campaign in fine fashion yesterday with a win against South Australia, bowling the Croweaters out for 98 before chasing the small total down with seven wickets in hand.
The national tournament for McGregor comes less than a week after she captained the Northern Rivers under-14 side to a Cricket Victoria State Championships win.
McGregor scored 40 retired in the final and will be hoping to replicate the form that has also had her play a Whitelock Shield E-grade match for the Tigers this year.
Hamilton found her way to the Vic Country side through the under-16 Northern Rivers team, where she scored 62 runs and took four wickets in their tournament, which finished at the semi-final stage.
Hamilton has been plying her trade at the Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Club this season.
