Tatura stars James Wall and Rian McGough have played key roles in Southern Districts’ heartbreaking one-point loss.

Two of the Bulldogs’ finest players in the Goulburn Valley Football League, the pair booted a goal each for Districts as they lost to Wanderers in round 13 of the Northern Territory Football League.

Former Kyabram big man Sam Smith also turned out for Districts and booted three goals as star forward Will Farrer led the way with seven majors.

The 17.12 (114) to 18.5 (113) result typified where the sides are on the ladder, with Wanderers in third, a spot above Districts on the ladder.

It was Wall’s and McGough’s first appearance in the Top End this season.

But there have been some other GVFL talent featuring at Nightcliff.

Former Shepparton United ace Brodie Filo is working his way back from a serious injury suffered in October.

Reigning Nichols medallist Filo, who will play in the Ovens and Murray league this year with Wodonga Raiders, returned for Nightcliff against Wanderers on January 7 before backing up in the Tigers’ win against Waratahs on Saturday.

He is joined at Nightcliff, which sits on top of the ladder with just one defeat, by Seymour talent Ben Clifton.

The Goulburn Valley interleague player has made three appearances and kicked a goal on debut against Darwin Buffaloes.

Former Shepparton speedster Baydon Ngalkin has featured 12 times for the Tigers for one goal.
